I was asked by the ladies of HN Marketing near Maidenhead to photograph them in a relaxed style. The idea was to photograph at their offices in a portrait style rather than a strict business headshot style. Here are a few favourites from the portrait shoot.

I was asked by Devant Ltd, a Reading based contracts and training company to photograph the process of recording audio for their new iPhone app. Business photography takes many forms, but I do enjoy this kind of editorial photography (photographing a process or happening) very much.

The app. is designed to take you through the basics of negotiating a contract and Devant was keen to maximise the publicity associated with it’s release. The voiceover recording took place at No Machine Studios in Wokingham and the idea was to photograph the recording process and to use the photos in Devant’s press release and other publicity initiatives. I have to admit we cheated and photographed during the setup and the rehearsal because of the camera clicks. Here are a few favourites from the photography session.

Commercial Photography London | World Travel Market

My photographic colleague Douglas Fry asked me to provide my commercial photography services to record some of the formal presentations and talks at the opening of the World Travel Market event at ExCel in London. Here’s a few favourites from the shoot. Formal presentations on stage are always tricky to photograph – you have no control over the lighting and positioning of the subject and access is often limited in that you can’t really get close to the stage or lectern as blocking the audiences view doesn’t go down very well! I usually photograph these using long lens from the back to retain perspective and context and try to catch the interesting expressions and movements of the speakers.

Stephen Sackur of the BBC opens the proceedings.

Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt MP, UK Secretary of State for Culture concluded the official opening.

Business Portraits | Reading Berkshire

The brief today was for some relaxed commercial portraits of Nicola Carruthers, Chief Executive of the Thrive Charity. The photographs are for press releases, web use and for brochures and reports. It’s been a while since I photographed at Thrive but it was a pleasure to be at this gardening based charity once again today.

Here are a few favourite portraits we photographed in the grounds of Thrive. Autumn is an interesting time for portrait photography outside. When the sun is out this time of year it can be very contrasty with harsh shadows. I generally prefer my portraits to be lit with a softer, more flattering light so we sought some shaded areas of the garden for the photography. The autumn colours are of course a bonus at this time of year.

Location Portrait and Food Photography | Le Manoir Aux Quat’Saisons

Today I was asked by my colleague and fellow photographer Douglas Fry of Piranha Photography to photograph a chef’s course in the kitchens at the beautiful Le Manoir Aux Quat’Saison, in Great Milton Oxfordshire. The hotel and restaurant are beautiful and it’s wonderful to wander around the colossal vegetable gardens – one of the secrets to the amazing food that’s served in the restaurant.

The course was run by Raymond Blanc himself and it was really interesting to photograph. Here’s a few favourites from the day.

Some pictures from the kitchen. The small cups contain different concentrations of salt to help train the chef’s awareness of salt as an ingredient.

Conference and Event Photography in London

I was asked by my colleague and fellow photographer Douglas Fry to cover a presentation by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority at the Queen Elizabeth Conference Centre in London. The brief was to show the main speakers in context and provide a sequence of images giving impressions not only of the principal speakers on stage but also to photograph the audience at the conference centre.

Julie is a workplace health and safety specialist and approached me with regard to producing some relaxed business portrait photographs that would show her personality and be a little different from the standard corporate photograph. This was a great brief – I enjoyed working with Julie and here are a couple of my favourite images from the photography session.

Today I was asked to photograph Anne Diamond for Health Magazine. The shoot was to take place at the Royal Berkshire Health and Racquets Club in Bracknell.Whilst it might be a wonderful place to work out and trim the waistline, sadly it didn’t offer much in terms of photogenic backdrops. If I’ve learnt one thing about location photography in the last eighteen years, it’s how to make the best out of less than stellar surroundings so we found some space behind the club (acres of carpark at the front sadly) to shoot some portraits by the tennis courts. Anne was delightful to work with and made my job easy.
